I stopped playing Minecraft Java in November 2017 sometime and came back to it on Jan 25th 2018, I did the update which forced itself upon the game! Now all it does is freeze up as soon as I click on Single Player or Multiplayer, if I am fast enough clicking that then it freezes up as soon as I click on a world to play! I went as far as uninstalling the game and reinstalling the game and as far as removing all saved worlds and even as far as deleting all mods I had downloaded so I have just a fresh copy of Minecraft Java 1.12.2 and it still freezes up in exact same manner! I bought the game so I expect to play it the only reason I came back to the game is because of the Aquatic Update I wanted to try! I have made sure I was indeed logged in my account when I went into the fresh new copy of the game but still to no avail do I get into playing any of my worlds as it freezes always before I get to that step! My java is up to date and my Windows 10 is up to date! I would take a screen shot but all you would be seeing is just normal Single/Multi player selection screen or a list of Worlds with no error or crashing notices and because a picture is still you get the same effect! I end up having to close it by the red X in top right hand corner everytime! I want to play the game soon hopefully I get some help on this because next step is I gonna have to buy a whole new computer and deal with a different internet service provider which costs money to see if it's something else kinda thing! I hope to be back playing within a week at tops! Thanks: Sarainia Angelsong
ADWCleaner is an utility to clean a PC which has potential malware/adware, which is a common cause for the problem you have. Download it here: https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1/
Run a Scan, Clean anything it finds, restart the computer and then try the game again, you may need to do one more reinstall (clearing .minecraft of everything but saves) after.
Well I did find a Bizarre solution to my problem! The original minecraft is still in it's original location C:\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft, however that one is the one that freezes, I basically went to Twitch downloaded the Twitch App for desktop, I then downloaded Project Ozone 2, which is a Minecraft Forge thing on Curse, anyways once that was downloaded I opened up the launcher and instead of playing the Project Ozone 2 I went ahead and gone into Launch Options picked 1.12.2 Named it whatever hit save then go to news hit the green arrow next to play, choose my configuration hit Play / Download and finally the game works! No idea what the differences between the launcher that Mojang uses and the launcher curse forge uses but what I do know in fact is going the long route did pay off and I logged into my minecraft the same way and was able to play! But even still if I try reinstalling a fresh copy from Mojangs site it still freezes up so I not sure why that is? But any how I got my minecraft working again unmodded
