To clarify my title, using Optifine suddenly shoots my CPU and Memory up under the program "Java{TM} Platform SE Binary."
The weird thing is, yesterday, everything was fine. My computer restarted while I tried to sleep, but when I booted up Minecraft, I was getting and continue to get less than 1 FPS. I tried everything. In order:
- Lowered every setting possible
- Relogged
- Restarted Minecraft
- Restarted computer (twice)
- Stopped every other unnecessary program running, including Chrome (slightly lowered CPU/Memory usage, did nothing to stop lag), and my screen darkener (mentioned below). Usually I have Chrome open with a few tabs, my screen darkener, Skype, and Discord all running alongside Minecraft with no problems. No other program besides Chrome seemed to have even the slightest effect on CPU/Memory, let alone lag, however.
- Updated Java (then restarted computer)
- Downgraded Java (then restarted computer)
- Updated Optifine
- Updated LiteLoader
- Attempted to launch vanilla Minecraft (did not launch/launcher froze and crashed)
- Attempted to launch Minecraft with only Liteloader. It worked, but everything suddenly looked terrible (like vanilla Minecraft), as if my texture pack had suddenly stopped working without Optifine.
Resource Packs:
- Attempted to download lower resolution A+ Vox Patch from 128x to 64x
- Attempted to download lower resolution PureBDcraft from 128x to 64x
- Ran with Optifine and without; less than 1 FPS with Optifine, worked fine without, just still looked like basic vanilla Minecraft.
Other Mods:
Forge was disabled, but nothing happened either way.
Computer Specs:
My OS is WIndows 10 64-bit, I have a SSD, Intel(R) HD graphics 4000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphics (all recently updated).
I'm not sure how to get an error report and copy-paste it in this game, but I did do thisDxDiag Report seen here, so that might be helpful to know. Other than that, like I said prior, nothing else changed between me playing it fine with only a little lag when people were blowing things up around me, to one frame every 3 seconds or less, other than my computer restarting. That's it. No other program was added, removed, or even booted up. I went straight to Minecraft without doing anything else after booting up my computer. Every other game I play works fine. The lag issue and sudden spike in memory/CPU is on every server and single-player.
As of now, the only other program running while I play Minecraft is a screen-darkener called Pangolin Screen Brightness, but this never caused any issue before. I have to use it because of chronic migraines, so it's not an option to not use a screen darkener.
Not too sure, but it might have something to do with your system updating rather than hardware issues. I have just checked my recent Windows updates, and it appears that an update was installed. Most likely a patch for the recent CPU vulnerabilities, I've seen that it slows down computers.

Sometimes, you have regrets about things. Such as "cool" misspelled usernames with emotes at the ends. (I definitely regret 'nothin)
It's an issue with Optifine, Reset all of it's settings to default, and turn them back on one by one to figure out if there is a specific setting that is causing the FPS issue. Usually you can fix this by disabling Smooth FPS.

Ok, wow. I turned everything back to default and it suddenly works. That's super weird because I hadn't changed any settings for days and it was working right up until it didn't. XD

*EDIT* I am using MC 1.12.2

That's a distinct possibility because it's happened before. that an update screwed up my gaming. Do you know how to check and remove the update?

I spoke to the owner of Vox Populi, Zombiemold, and he says the resource pack relies upon Optine. RIP: Good graphics.
