Hey everyone, I recently made my first Minecraft sever, but when I clicked on it to get on the server it couldn't connect. Instead, it displayed a message saying it couldn't find the host's name. If someone could explain this it would be much appreciated.
This post used to be a the original version of my "So I edited my server and typed localhost into the address bar..." post, but when I didn't see it I though it didn't post for some reason, and so I posted it again. Now that this post popped up now, I didn't want it to seam like I was spamming or something, so I edited it and that edit is what you're reading here.
So I edited my server and typed localhost into the address bar, I even typed localhost into the direct connect bar. I'm not having any internet problems because Netflix is working and I can watch youtube. It even says internet access when I hover over the internet icon. Either I'm doing something wrong or the method I'm using just doesn't work in 1.12.2

there can be many server hosting problems. Are you hosting this after downloading the 1.12.2 server jar right? if yes where did you download it from.
I've never heard of version server jars. The way I'm doing it is when the game comes up I click "multiplayer" and then I click "add server." From there I type the name and the address.

that means you AR NOT hosting the server. Who is hosting it? What IP are you trying to connect to
I don't know who's hosting it if I'm not. Also if it's not my IP then I don't know what IP I'm trying to connect to. If I'm supposed to pay for something to host a server then I can't host a server right now.

If you aren't hosting the server then somebody else is.
It doesn't matter who
It's not you... right?
When you type an IP to connect to a server you are typing the IP of where the server is hosted. If you are not hosting the server then it's not your IP.

if u use your own pc,localhost will be nice.
other server type,u need to confirm the port is open.
and at first u need make sure the server is done.
I appreciate the help, but what do you mean by if I use my own pc, localhost will be nice?
if the server is hosted on your pc all you need to type in for the address is localhost
(you said you made your own)
Thanks
