i used to play minecraft when I was a kid, 3-4 years ago and I would like to get back into it for a meme, I tried downloading the latest launcher/version, and i cannot even login to my account? I get this error, please help!

If created his account before Mojang accounts were created, he should log in with username and not e-mail. You should google Minecraft login server status and see if they are working and checking your firewall. Btw, it's recommended to upgrade your Minecraft account to a Mojang account.
