Thread: Recently, Minecraft always restarts my computer. Sometimes my screen just went dark, and I heard an error sound but was not able to see what the error was. I think once or twice the screen went pink and then restarted. I only happened when I look to a certain direction.
For example when I looked in a certain direction and it happened. I restarted my computer and tried opening the same save again. It was saved looking in the same direction, and the game crashes immediately after the map has been loaded. However, when I tried moving the mouse to look into a different direction, I was able to play...until I tried to look into the same direction again.
What have been done: I already tried reinstalling Java JRE, my GeForce GTX 570 driver, and Minecraft itself. Also tried changing into a different version of Minecraft, it still happened.
Ps. It did not happen before, but I stopped playing minecraft for like 4 months, and when I came back, this happened.
If its actually causing your computer to power cycle its probably not something directly related to MC, just exacerbated by it. Could be a few things. One of the more common causes I've personally seen for this is its causing the computer to try an access something it shouldn't and the PC restarts in order to protect itself. In general the most common case for this would be its trying to access what it thinks is a protected section of memory. On the software side this could be you giving MC access to more RAM and its trying to write something it shouldn't. On the hardware side of that issue, it could just be a bad RAM stick (I've personally on my own PC had this be the issue and MC was one of the few things that would reliably cause the problem to present itself). Moving away from it being a memory access related issue, but still in the hardware realm, it could be a power supply issue only showing up when the system is asked to display something in a specific area and the GPU is asking to pull more power.
The hardware based issues will a bit harder to completely nail down, but diagnosing software stuff should be easier to eliminate as the cause. I would first open up the machine (fully powered off) and check that the GPU, RAM, and all internal power connections are properly seated, and that there isn't some absurd amount of dust in the system. Then do a clean install option of the latest graphics drivers, for Nvidia hardware, all you need to do during the driver install is select the Custom Install option when asked, then check the box labeled Clean Install on the next window it shows you. Then reinstall the game itself, and don't make any launch option changes if you had before. To do so basically open up your .minecraft folder and delete everything except the Saves folder, if you have screenshots keep those, if you have texture/resource packs move a copy of that folder to the desktop and delete the folder in .minecraft during the troubleshooting. Also keep the servers.dat file if you have a large enough list of servers that you don't have the connection info memorized for.
If none of that makes a change, it would suggest that there is something else wrong with the PC, be it hardware or something wrong with the OS install. It usually has to be a very serious crash for the computer to actually power cycle itself. Would also be a good idea at any point in this process to run a few virus/malware/adware scans to make sure its not some rogue piece of software causing a conflict.
