Basically, the game is unplayable in its current state, and I haven't the foggiest clue why. I get maybe 1 frame per 5-6 seconds. The graphics seem to be there as they're supposed to be, but the framerate is just slogging along at a snail's pace, and I can't seem to trace the source of the problem. I've tried restarting my computer, updating Java itself, reducing all the extras in Options like particles, clouds, graphics, etc, as much as I could, but nothing seems to work. What's going on? Is there something I've perhaps failed to update that the game needs a current version of in order to run properly?
Still don't know what the other two things mentioned are, but I tried uninstalling and reinstalling - only seemed to help a little, framerate is still being tanked too much to actually play it.

Can you please post your PC Specifications?
Manufacturer: Dell
Model: XPS L702X
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 6.00 GB
System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Assuming that's the specifications you meant.
Doesn't seem like your computer is the problem.
Have you tried completely uninstalling minecraft and then downloading it again?
Post a screenshot with F3 enabled and your JVM arguments.
Admittedly, I haven't tried that, for fear it would require buying it once more.
And I can take a screenshot, but F3 enabled? JVM arguments?
