I recently downloaded the new Minecraft launcher, as I was given no choice and went along with the upgrade.
For the most part, the new launcher works okay, the mods still work, no changes were made to my saved worlds, until I found out I couldn't play offline.
I was in the car with my Macbook when I opened the launcher to which it said "play offline". Naturally, I clicked "play offline" to which the launcher rejected my request and I in turn, I got a window that said "error". I have always been able to play offline with the older launcher, so why can't I with the new one? (If this is something that is still in progress, perhaps all of the refurbishments should be established first, instead of launching an unfinished and underdeveloped program). We stopped at a nearby shopping centre and I connected to the store wifi. I was then able to open the launcher and play the game. When I opened up my latest world, all of my work was gone and the settings went back to default vanilla. I have mods supported by forge, and one of them is the extra biomes which brings brand new items like mobs, flowers, blocks etc etc. The world that I was currently working on, had lots of flowers (from a mod) that I used to decorate a plains biome. They have all disappeared except for the vanilla items. Is that particular world corrupted? Can I reverse the corrupted files? I have tried the level.dat tricks and NOTHING works. I'm getting extremely frustrated. I even tried re-opening the world once I got back to home base with my wifi and router connection, my work is still lost. Yet, the modifications that I made to all my other worlds, still remain!? Can someone suggest any kind of feedback that could potentially retrieve the work from my 'corrupted' world?
Although I'm not sure about fixing your world, I recommend you use MultiMC instead, as it will save you the hassle of this happening again. If you don't know, MultiMC is another launcher which supports modded environments better.
You should post more info about your problem though, such as version, mods, forge version, etc., as it'd make it easier for others to help you.
Thank you for the MultiMC recommendation! Will this however, disturb the present launcher that I have just updated or can they both co-exist with the only difference being that the MultiMC has mod support as extra backup.
The Minecraft version I have is a little outdated. I have 1.7.10 and I have never had issues with it thus far. All mods that I currently have are supported by 1.7.10 which is why I won't upgrade to 1.8 or further since the mods will then be non compatible and potentially crash the game. As far as I know my forge version is 1.7.10 and I recently updated my java launcher.

Hi there!
Thank you for the MultiMC recommendation! Will this however, disturb the present launcher that I have just updated or can they both co-exist with the only difference being that the MultiMC has mod support as extra backup.

i use 1.7.10 mods aswell and the old launcher works pretty well
(you can also download the latest version without problem)
as Hyperion said MultiMC may be your best bet
They both can co-exist, yeah.

Thank, both! I appreciate your time and help
