While I can play minecraft noramlly, i would snoop and ask around anyone would know what is going on.
long story short, current, the "new" launcer fails to launch minecraft at all, and returns into launcher telling that game crashed unexpectingly.
The logs does not register anything after "game ready to launch" and "launching", after which there are no messages whatsoever, not even debug messages.
New launcher was able to launch the game when 11.2 was a thing. but now it wont launch any jar.
I have tried reinstalling minecraft, reistalling with game folder and %appdata% folder deleted completly. Tried reinstalling java and checked old registeries referring to previous java versions. And running with admin rights.
All without any progress.
OS is windows 7
I currently have Nvidia geforce 660 gtx with drivers 385.41.
if i launch the game with original old launcher, game launches fine however with the latest jar version. most peculiar problem indeed.
little pain, needing to go trough reminders about new launhcer and login in at every launch. xD
I found the settings and it had follwing arguments set:
-Xmx1G -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=16M
I removed them and problem presisted.
i tried with following arguments:
-Xmx2048M -Xms2048M
problem presisted.
I noticed that the notation of C: drive is wrong with / and \, but it refuses to change the symbol. windows regognices the path tough, but i cannot say same for java/launcher for sertain.

1. Did you also install 64 bit Java?
2. Did you manually set the Java version in the new launcher to the current one installed?
3. How much system RAM do you have?
4. How much memory did you allocated to MC?

1. yes (8.144 64bit)
2. no (how to? D:)
3. 16 gb
4. old client had 2gb allocated, but now it seems to been dropped to 500mb (forgot how to add it)

The New launcher currently has many issues, already reported on the bug tracker, yet unresolved. Workaround is not to use the new launcher.
