Hello! After a recent string of PC problems, I've fixed everything except for minecraft. Initially, I couldn't even use the installer, but after editing the minecraft registry in my PC I was able to download and use it. Unfortunately, after using the installer I receive the "Minecraft could not be downloaded at this time, try again later" error message. I've also used the Hijackthis application I saw some other people using to find a potential issue- though it claimed there was an error with the "hosts" in my computer, it still gave me the log here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25703578/
Further details: I can use the installer to repair or remove the bugged out minecraft install, but repair doesn't fix the problem.
I can't even get into the launcher, the installer just puts the icon on my desktop and then gives me the error message before installing the launcher or the game. I am installing the Java edition as well, and I got it from the minecraft website. As for the registry, I just went into my computer's registry edit and removed a corrupted entry for Minecraft, and a fixed (presumably) one was added back when I redownloaded the game's installer.
Thank you so much! For some reason, the direct download of the .jar allows me to play the game with the old launcher. A shame the current launcher doesn't seem to work, which I'm still confused and annoyed by, but I can at least play! Thank you for helping me out
Not quite? The launcher I used to have, the one that won't download, had a newsfeed and built-in skin swapping, it's the one you posted.
The launcher you told me to download through the Linux link is the old one, it even has a link to the download for the current .msi installer. I've linked a picture.

Yup- nothing. Just an error box that says "Unable to download Minecraft, try again later." And here's the DxDiag: https://pastebin.com/DUXY0sZx
