Prior to the last big update the game was showing me a message to update to Java 8 as the game would not continue to work with java 7. I updated, but was getting same message. New version comes out and the game won't open. I left it alone for a few months, hoping a patch or something would automatically resolve it (as has been the case in the past) but I actually want to play this game once in a while.

It could almost certainly be circumvented by changing your profile settings. They probably still reference where you have Java 7 installed.
