So a few months ago I had no issues with connecting to letter IPs and direct IPs. Recently, I returned to MC and started looking around some modded servers. The only ones that do work for me are those that comprise only of a direct IP. It's worth noting that this issue only occurs in my home network, otherwise in other networks (such as my college's secure network) the servers show up fine.
The error message I receive on attempting to connect is java.net.connectexception connection refused. Also note that I am using Mac, and that I don't know much of the way crash logs or diags are done. I tried flushing DNS, checking my "hosts" file (which contained no minecraft in it), reinstalling MC and the forge client, and restarting router and modem.
Thanks.
EDIT: It appears that the letter IP or not did not change anything, there are some that work fine. However all -jingames.net and beastmc.com subdomains do not work for me despite being online. I have been able to ping them all however.
I did disable both my Mac and router firewalls. It definitely sounds like a router thing but I've no idea what is causing it. I disabled any security protocol i can think of and none have allowed connection.

Bump.
Probably being blocked by your firewall.

If it's not your firewall or antivirus, it could be your ISP or the server itself is blocking connections from you.
