They've never had an issue before until we just upgraded our internet speed with att uverse and they gave us a new modem and router in one. I've just uninstalled and reinstalled the game hoping that might change some options, and get it working but it did not work. If anybody could let me know if there is a fix for this it would be greatly appreciated.
There might be a firewall or access rules on the new router, you might have to access that and allow Javaw.exe to pass through the firewall so the computers can see each other.

There is a firewall in place. I just turned it off and all is well, but now no firewall so I turned it back on for now. There is a section that says:
Applications, Pinholes and DMZ Settings: Default
"Allow individual application(s) - Choose the application(s) that will be enabled to pass through the firewall to this computer. Click ADD to add it to the Hosted Applications list."
When I click on that, I can add a program. It's asking for info that I have no clue what it is, such as; is this TCP or UDP, Port or (Range), Protocol Timeout, Map to Host Port, Application Type (Drop Down Box with 6 different options).
Is this something Minecraft might be able to help with if I took the time to e-mail them? I tried calling att uverse and all they said was that they could not help me because i'm dealing with a third party client and have no info.
Yeah that sounds like what you might want, though the specific settings you'd need, I don't know. I know you'd probably have to allow Javaw.exe through as that is what runs Minecraft. As to TCP/UDP, I think TCP, but see if there's a setting for both, or just make two rules allowing each one. Port range would be tough as the port changes each time a LAN game is started, I don't know if there's a list somewhere of the ports Minecraft uses, check the wiki, it might be there. No idea on application type, maybe post a screenshot of that page, it might help.
No one at Mojang would help, I don't think, as they can have no idea what the settings would need to be on every firewall there is.

I've seen a LAN game use a bunch of different ports, it probably tries to use 25565 then goes to something else if needed. Using direct connect usually works, but if the computers are assigned IP addresses on the LAN through DHCP, then those can change as well. You need to look them up each time, or if it fails after a few days, you know the IP address has changed and you need to look it up again.

Hey guys! My kids are having an issue trying to get into each others worlds through LAN. The error they keep getting is:
Io.netty.channel.AbstractChannel$AnnotatedConnectExeception: Connection timed out:
No further information:
