Render distance is on 32 (which should be reasonable for my rig) and other video settings are on Optifine's auto settings.
I am barely getting 100 fps, with spikes going down to below 60 sometimes when I move. The FPS constantly spikes up and down. Someones I get in the mid hundreds but mostly I hover around 70-90. This makes absolutely no sense for what little mods I'm using and the fact I'm not even using a shader.
This cannot be normal. All my other games run fine. Any advice?
I'm not sure. I was in another thread and some others said that getting older drivers fixed it for them. Another thing you can try is disabling the GeForce Experience overlay. Some people have said that that fixes it too.
Dude. 32 render distance is terrible for any rig really, stick to 16 man. You are loading 1,024 chunks which is not very reasonable. The combination of mods and that super high render distance is the cause of your lag.

Are you running dual monitors?
I also have a 1070 and 16 GB of ram and recently started getting ridiculously low FPS.
Nope. Just one monitor at 1080p. Could be a recent update? Although it seems this has always been a problem with this game.
