Not sure if that's actually going to help, but it's a start. My grandson (age 8) wants to play a mod that seems not to like MC 1.12.1, which raised the question of my title. I successfully installed Forge 1.11.2 and downloaded the JurassiCraft mod, just so you know what I did so far.
He is very insistent he only wants mods with dinosaurs *SIGH* I went in search of an older MC version, but was unsuccessful in finding anything legit.
So my question really comes down to wondering if it's possible to get a legal install of an older MC version, and match up the Forge version that will run the mod he wants? Or do we just have to wait and hope that mod gets updated?
I ran a search for dinosaur mods for MC 1.12.1 and came up with very little, and of course, nothing that appealed to him.
Yes, you can get any of the old versions (even alpha and beta versions) right from the official launcher. Aside from what Herb_ posted above, there is one step to do initially, and that is to enable old versions to begin with. In the launcher, go to "Launch Options" and click the slider for "Historical Versions", I don't believe this is enabled by default.
Yep, you're correct, but that is only needed for versions before version 1; ie beta, alpha, indev, infdev, etc.
Ah, good to know. I always turn them all on first thing (snapshots, historical and advanced) so I never bothered to look what's available without having it on.

To tell them how to live is to prevent them living.
