I have windows 10 and decided to start up minecraft and I see this new launcher. I start it up try to join a server but the game either stops responding while loading in or stops responding the second i get in. The game seems to stop responding whenever it has to load something like if i change the resource pack or adjust mipmap levels but mostly just a problem with loading in. I've let it sit for 10 plus minutes with no luck and there are no crash logs. I've got 24 ram and I've given minecraft 4 to 6 to 8 to 10 to 12 to work with and this problem stays. I've tried deleting .minecraft and getting a fresh reinstall updating java trying different versions of java updating drivers renaming .minecraft to something else then reinstalling...I've kinda lost track with how much stuff i have tried but I've been at this for a solid week and I'm so lost. I think it might have something to do with my system. All my other games run perfectly fine and i even have a gtx1080. I downloaded the older launcher and it works perfectly fine but it doesn't have skin support. I can play it with that launcher but I'm really starting to miss skins. So if anyone can help me either get skins working on the old launcher or fixing the new launcher you will make someone very happy. Thanks to anyone who helps.
If you can't see skins of anyone online including yourself, that's a different issue, not sure why you crash with the new launcher, could be the built in version of Java maybe? If you're going vanilla that should work fine. But getting the latest Java and setting the game to use it wouldn't hurt.
Not seeing skins is likely a connectivity issue, for some reason, you can't connect to the Mojang server that stores skins, and yes, a firewall or anti-virus could be the cause of that.

i could care less about the skins not working in the old launcher my main problem is that the main launcher wont even work which id like to fix. Im pretty sure the old launcher doesnt even support skins anyways
I think the difference between the old launcher and new launcher is the protocol it uses (or something) to log you into the Mojang server to verify your account. The new launcher might do something different to log you in that then allows skins to work, at least that's my guess.
I have no idea what could be happening, are there any crash reports in this folder:
If so post the most recent one on Pastebin.com or some site like that, it may have useful info. If there is no crash report there, then there's nothing for us to go on to figure out the problem.

Yes, skins should work no matter what launcher you're using. Skins are downloaded from the Mojang servers when the player logs in, and then sends them to each player, so if you're not seeing skins then something is blocking the Mojang skin server for some reason.
all the indicators should be green, I think skins are on the textures server, if it's not connecting then something is blocking it. Or, whatever login you're using isn't being validated properly (just a guess) and the textures server isn't sending you any of the info.

Yeah, something is blocking the skins from reaching you, these things are difficult to fix. I tried on one of my friend's computers to get his skin working, where everyone else on the server could see it but him. He could see everyone else's skin but his. I never figured it out.

just did it and it didnt seem to do anything new i still cant see any skins and the other launcher still stops responding. Could it be windows defender? I dont have any other anti virus as far as i know. Also do i need to replace the thing i just removed with something better? or should i be fine

I use the old launcher and it loads skins in fine

well everything is green but my skins havent been working for a long time now and google doesnt want to give me any helpful answers

i just tried running it in admin mode and still no skins so its not being blocked by antivirus
