Because of the administrator permissions on this Macbook Air, I am unable to place Minecraft in my Applications folder, which is required to run the game normally (and the administrator permissions cannot be changed, because it is school-issued).
I read last night that you can play Minecraft on any PC/laptop, granted you have the right version of everything, just by correctly setting it up on a portable USB.
I decided to try it this morning, while watching several videos and reading several articles on different steps you need to take. I set up the correct folders on my USB.
I took my ".minecraft" file from my Windows 8 PC and copy-pasted it into the correct file (Application Support) on my Mac, renaming it to "minecraft" beforehand because I found that it would not work on Mac as a "." file. This means that all of the information from my Minecraft application on my PC is now on the laptop.
I installed MagicLauncher, so I could run Minecraft easily from the USB. Now, operating everything on the app, I changed the necessary options in Setup; MagicLauncher told me it was unable to find "minecraft.jar," so I looked it up and directed the minecraft.jar option to "1.12.jar" in my Versions folder (1st attachment screenshot). In the Advanced section, I changed my base folder location to the location of my USB's "minecraft" folder (2nd attachment screenshot).
I decided to check out the Options tab before I selected Login. I saw that the "Location" option was set to the incorrect location; I clicked Browse and found the correct location, but I'm completely unsure as to how to SELECT that location(3rd attachment screenshot).
Since the guy in the video I was watching changed the aforementioned Setup selections and did not click on or change anything in the Options tab, I thought maybe it would be fine. I clicked Login, and got an error message (4th attachment screenshot). I'm not sure what's messed up: whether it's anything in the files, or if it just has to do with the Location.
I'm almost positive it has to do with the location, so does anyone know how to change that? If not, does anyone have any other idea what it could be?
(In case it's important, the java is version 8 update 60, build 1.8.0_60-b27)
Thanks for letting me know. ^^' Do you know if they just closed it down or something? As far as I know, it was still up and running in April. ^^ Fortunately, I'm not looking to download mods because they can be a waste of space and a pain in the neck, but I am trying to figure out what kind of configuration and application(s) I need to get Minecraft to work on USB. Do you happen to have any tips?

Curse Premium*facepalm* MagicLauncher is DEAD. If you want to use mods, install Minecraft Forge instead.
