Hello. I am trying to play Minecraft 1.11 on my father's very old HP Pavilion dv6450us Entertainment Notebook PC.
It has Windows 10 (I know, very bad) with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 graphics and 2 GB of DDR2 RAM. I am aware that this is painstakingly low. I had plans to add OptiFine, but they have been soiled by the following error message when PLAY is hit:
"The game crashed whilst initializing game
Error: org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Pixel format not accelerated"
I asked for a crash report from the program but this did not bring up anything at all.
This computer has the latest graphics card drivers from Intel that have not been updated since 2009. Is it possible this computer cannot run OpenGL, and thusly cannot play Minecraft? Is there any workaround I could use to play Minecraft on this computer?
I do believe i had this problem once before but it used to open up a website explaining why and it did so automatically. Strange it didn't work for you.
On my old VERY VERY low laptop, Minecraft wouldn't work and the key here is "Pixel Format Not Accelerated. Basically it means that the graphics card is just not good enough. I was stunned too, try getting a very old version. like, before 1.4. Sorry, no true fix besides an upgrade.
TLDR: Graphics card isn't good enough. Yeah, painstakingly low.

Friend of mine had this problem when he upgraded to Windows 10. Downgrading back to Windows 7 fixed it for him. It MIGHT work for you, but I'd only do it if you have no other option.
Unfortunately your graphics hardware is not supported on Windows 10, you will need to downgrade to Windows 7, upgrade your graphics hardware (Not possible on a laptop), or use another computer to play Minecraft.

Yeah, I figured. Minecraft's just my go-to for potatoes, because it usually works pretty well on potatoes. Guess this potato isn't really even a potato, more like a french fry that got ran over, has ants on it, and might've been touched by a fly. Oh well! Thanks.

Hehe my actual computer plays it fine
Thank you though.
I appreciate your response. I saw the same response once before actually before I made this one! Sorry that on that post someone was mean to you. Hope you have a great afternoon!

Update your graphics card's drivers, assuming there are any for windows 10. If there aren't, try using the drivers for windows 7/8 if they exist.

Given this computer is a "work machine" I don't have the option but thank you. I appreciate your effort and solution.
They were last updated on 2009 for Windows 7 64-bit, and are no longer supported by Intel. Thanks anyway!
