Minecraft Launcher 2.0.847 attempting to load the most recent game version
To start I've got a fresh MC & Java install and made sure that I only have the newest java installed. I have every option checked under the "Settings" tab. However, when I click "Play" a windows dialog box appears saying "Minecraft launcher has stopped working Windows can check online for a solution to the problem.". At that point the "Minecraft game log" window closes itself before I can do anything with it and without any text appearing beforehand. Sometimes when I click the "X" on the windows box the launcher closes and the game proceeds to load with no problems letting me into the game, the other times the game freezes and I have to ctrl-alt-del Java and MC and try again. I know how useful logs would be to help diagnose the problem but I have no idea how to get a log with the mc game log window closing itself before anything appears.

I really don't understand the bugs page anyhow, even when an issue says "resolved". I see no answer or resolution listed anywhere, just a long line of issue duplicated and jiberish. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious but I'd really love to get this sorted and back to playing, thanks in advance
You mean downloading an older launcher? Seeing as the new launcher is supposed to run the game and the menu faster I'd much prefer fixing the problem rather than bandaiding the issue.

Right but it's your choice: play the game now using the old launcher or wait for Mojang to fix the new one.
