I'm new to the forum and I really need some advice before I commit to buying the PC version of MC. I used to play on console and I have the Pocket Edition, but I really want to try some resource packs and to build some massive structures in Creative MC, so I'm trying to figure out if my PC can handle it.
My laptop is an Acer Aspire E1-522-7634
Specs:
AMD Quad-Core Processor A6-5200 (2.0 GHz)
AMD Radeon HD 8400 with 512 MB Graphics System Memory
8 GB DDR3 L Memory
750 GB HDD
Windows 8.1, x64
Java 8
I've tried the 1.11 demo and so far it seems okay, the frame rate is a little choppy though.
So that brings me to the second part of this question:
If I download OptiFine will it help with the frame rate? Also, I'm interested in trying out texture packs like Pixel Reality x16 (or better, of course) and maybe even some shaders like Sildur's Vibrant Shaders, but I don't know if that'll work with my laptop... and I would just try them out on my own but that requires buying the game
That CPU is meh, so don't expect to do many mods, and dont expect a smooth 60FPS experience, though 30FPS should be doable.
Optifine can improve FPS, but you have to change settings. Only you can find that out.
Structures should be fine as long as they don't involve large amounts of redstone and/or physics (falling sand, mobs, etc).
Resource packs should be fine, as long as you don't go higher than 32x or 64x.
Shaders are out of the question pretty much. It is unlikely that you will be able to get any shaders to run on that all all, and the ones that you do will be horribly laggy or be extremely basic.
What framerate are you getting right now on the demo? (Hit F3).
I really appreciate you taking the time to send me this list, but unfortunately, as of right now I don't have the funds to buy/build a new computer. lol
But I will save this list for future reference if I do decide to look into building my own.
Either way, I don't mind the way Minecraft is running right now on my PC, and that framerate is with all fancy graphics anyway- I'll see if I can get Optifine going and try to tweak the settings for a better FPS.
Thanks for letting me know this information. It should be known that computers and computer parts update all the time, so saving this list for the future may not be a good idea. When you have the funds to do so, PM me or reply to this comment, and i will send you an updated link
The Ryzen R3 is not out yet though. I will update this when they come out. It's just a minimum for now.
A dual core without hyperthreading will not work for minecraft. It is very CPU intensive and that Pentium would in some ways be a downgrade from the processor the OP currently has.

Hiya sazrocks, thanks for replying!

I get what you mean about the shaders, I figured that would be too hard on my system. I'm more excited about resource packs anyway
Starting up the game I get about 20 FPS, and after a minute or so letting everything load in there's a range of 28 to sometimes 60 FPS.
I would say I get about 35 FPS on average.
[email protected] is achievable on this machine, although you will need to run at near minimum settings.
I highly advise that you build a new computer. This is the minimum i'd consider getting if i wanted to play Minecraft at it's highest settings.

I would recommend a more capable processor than that Pentium. A low end Ryzen R3 when they come out should work nicely.
