I downloaded and installed forge, that worked without a problem. When I try to launch Minecraft it crashes every single time. I really don't know what I am doing with this. I haven't used mods for probably 3-4 years before there was forge. I'd install them the old way, but it seems some things may have changed since then and the old method doesn't work. Attached is the error report it gives me.

Bit hard to read all that but I think I can see at least one problem....
Am I right in assuming you are trying to run both Xrayr48 AND worldedit together ???
If so try removing either one of them & see if minecraft runs
It's been reported already to the Xray developer (see this page - there's a few posts about this, including one from me) that for some reason His mod & Worldedit don't work together
If you Remove Worldedit but keep Xray - minecraft runs
If you Remove Xray but keep Worldedit - Minecraft runs
If you have BOTH Xray & Worldedit installed - It crashes or locks up
I'm not saying this is your main problem, but I know that at least these 2 mods don't like each other
Oopps seems like I didn't read your post correctly.. You said you installed them 'the old way'.
Not too sure what you mean but iirc an old way was to open Minecraft and copy files into it deleting a XML file (or something like that)
I doubt this is the way you mean but just in case you did something differently etc try the following (if you did this then I'm stumped)
Firstly I'd suggest backing up the whole Minecraft folder - just in case
Next delete and reinstall Minecraft - run it so that necessary mojang files are downloaded & make sure it runs
Download and install 'forge' for the version you want to play from http://files.minecraftforge.net/ (either the installer or installer-win depending on your operating system)
Run the modified version/profile of Minecraft that forge created - this downloads any necessary files
Hopefully everything should run
Open up your Minecraft folder and (hopefully) there should be a 'mod' folder.
Open this and place any of the mod's JAR files you want to run into this folder, depending on some mods extra mods/library may be required to allow that mod to run
I would suggest installing one mod at a time and try running the forge version to make sure the game runs
Hopefully as you install and try running - Minecraft should run OK... And if it fails you should be able to determine which mod is causing problems
I tried that, which puts me on the new Minecraft launcher, which never worked for me in the past, but this time with renaming my minecraft folders to back up folders it worked. However, forge doesn't work. It installed just find, but crashes. I am not even sure how to get a crash report with the newer launcher.
To be honest - I forgot about the new launcher (shows how long since I use the default Minecraft launcher)..
....I usually use MultiMC as my launcher as I find it easier to disable mods if/when I have to fault find
Anyway, gave new launcher a try & it seems that on starting a profile there should be a pop window (titled "Minecraft game output") which I guess you could copy/paste.
Alternatively, on the launcher it seems clicking on the 'Launch options' then the "forge" profile, you'll see 5 on/off switches (on mine they are all 'off')
One is called 'game directory' & after the path there are 2 small icons - a folder & an arrow
- clicking the arrow opens the minecraft folder & there's a 'log' folder.
Inside (I have) 3 log files:-
'Latest.log' seems to be the same as the popup window log (guessing this is the same as the crash log - it looks similar to other crash logs I've seen) & I guess the 'fml-***-***.log are to do with Forge
Your screenshot does seems to show a java problem when forge is loading, tried googling this & found an old post for MC 1.9 that showed a similar problem where it crashed with forge showing "Loading" at 3/7 & "Rendering Setup" at 5/5 - same as you - & it seems this persons problem was that java didn't have enough memory to run. This may be similar to your problem & maybe assigning some more memory to JAVA may fix it (this may help)
Turning on the 'JVM Argument' switch in the Launch options might help..can all but try I guess

If you have BOTH Xray & Worldedit installed - It crashes or locks up
I'm not saying this is your main problem, but I know that at least these 2 mods don't like each other
I tried it without xray, it didn't help. I tried it with no mods and it still didn't work.
