but i was able to use this computer before java update(for four months). would going back to java V1.8.0_121 help, mabye? i have unistalled and reinstaled minecraft, nothing. i also tried to change its java directory thing to java 1.8.0_131, as by default it wants to use java 1.8.0_25. should i install java 1.8.0_25 jre and see if it works. thanks for the effort and help in a futile struggle against technology.
crash report after reinstall and directed to javaw.exe in the java 1.8.0u131 folder.
I'm no expert on Java, but do new builds of the same version (e.g., 1.8.0_121 versus 1.8.0_25) create a new install directory? I know that when a new version of JRE comes out it will install in a new directory (so you can end up with multiple versions of JRE - 1.6, 1.7, and 1.8 - on your computer). But I didn't realize that new builds would do that. The reason I ask is that I'm not sure that changing the directory name the way you mentioned is going to solve the problem.
In fact, I'm not sure the problem is (or at least was) Java at all. Your error seems to point to a problem with OpenGL, which, I think, is a known issue with older display adapters and Windows 10. For example, I saw this thread on intel's community forum about what appears to be pretty much the same issue. This is probably why Tails1 pointed to your graphics adapter as the problem (is it an older onboard graphics processor?). I don't know why, though, it would have worked before and not now unless you updated your graphics driver around the same time you updated Java and that update broke everything. I saw this thread, as well, where someone was expressing the same problem with the same graphics hardware that you have.
If you're convinced that Java is the problem, I wouldn't simply change the directory name. I'd uninstall Java and then reinstall the version and build that you know was working okay.
Going back to Windows 7 might be an option, but I know that that can be a pain, and you may not even have discs. Alternatively, a good option (with a little bit of a learning curve) is to create a Linux partition and dual boot, or use VirtualBox to create a virtual Linux machine even while you're running Windows. Linux works really well with older hardware (historically, far better than Windows does). Minecraft works just fine on Linux, and the Linux community usually has decent open source driver alternatives, especially for older graphics devices.
you are right and so was tails sorta. my graphics card doesnt normaly support OpenGL. i found a fix some where that allowed it to run though. if i come across it again or manage to get it solved, i will post back here. thanks guys, im still open for more input as i trudge through the internet for a fix.
You aren't the only one who had there minecraft break... Recently I came to the forums... under a new name for unrelated reasons... for an unrelated issue.... in the past few days many people on the modded side have been claiming the same thing and yesterday I updated windows 10.. a few days before my graphics drivers... yesterday I had an issue that seemed like NEI broke my minecraft but I know that isn't the case.... now not even vanilla will run and modded pops strange random errors....
Seems that snice java sent out an update 4 days ago more and more people have been having this issue... I'm with you in that it's likely a combo of graphics drivers and java not just one or the other but something in the last updates from nvidia and java broke something.
I have a gtx 970.... so I'm not buying that my graphics card is so outdated it won't run minecraft anymore.
here is some info about my pc and the crash report. anyone tell me what went wrong. thanks for the steady support.

Your graphics card is not supported on Windows 10, downgrade to windows 7, get a new graphics card or use a different computer.
