I have been playing Minecraft mods on 1.7.10 forge for a while now. But today I wasn't even able to select single-player worlds. I was able to select "cancel" and "Create New world," also i was able to select servers. Now I went online and look at other people with a similar issue. Now i was on Vanilla Minecraft 1.7.10 and it still wouldn't let me select a world. Anything Under the version 1.7.10 wont let me load a world but minecraft 1.8.0 and up do..... I would switch over to 1.8.9 but half my mods aren't supported in that version so....
I have tried:
--Reinstalling Minecraft
--Reinstalling Forge
--Updating Java
--Updating forge
--Fixing the world (if there was a possibility of being corrupt.)
--Restarting My PC
--Playing around with mods to see if there was any interference (I even loaded without mods)
--New Mouse
--ON/OFF on touchscreen mode
If a video is needed:
1.7.10 and 1.8.9 Side By Side:
If you would like me to provide mods, request to do so because I already experimented and played around to try to see what mod might be the issue.
Figured out the solution, The new windows 10 "Game Mode" settings was causing an error in the game. Turn off game mode to play minecraft under 1.7.10. Minecraft 1.8.x+ works well with GameMode enabled, in fact it boosts performance. Upon turning off game Mode you should be able to select your singleplayer worlds, also you should be able to use the scroll bars and options with any mod activity. This should also fix the achievements screen being stuck.
How to fix:
1. Restart PC
2. Turn Off GameMode:
(Settings, Gaming, GameMode, Switch off)
3. Launch Minecraft 1.7.10
You should be Good to go!!
If any errors persist after switching off game mode and you have tried everything else,
FACTORY RESET your PC because it may actually be an error windows while trying
to run java/minecraft. *NOTE* THIS IS A FINAL OPTION CHOICE, YE HAVE BEEN WARNED UPON RESET.
