Usually, I can get at least a couple hundred frames when playing minecraft with optifine.
Recently, however, I've only been geting around 60-70. It's still playable, but my computer lags and I get scren tearing every once in a while and when I harvest plants.

VSync does indeed limit the FPS to 60, and is butter smooth, but whenever I break a block or plant and plant more the game lags a little and drops in FPS. I don't know why, but the rest of the time it works fine.
Screen tearing and low FPS are fixed. It's just the lag that is the problem, because this has never happened before and I'm worried about it.

The PC is only a few months old. Any help please?
Screen tearing is fixable by enabling vysnc

What is the refresh rate of your monitor? If you have VSync on, most commonly it will default to 60fps anyways.

Vsync limits the FPS to the ones you can see with your monitor, anything more is just pushing your PC without reason
