Ok right off the bat my specs for my alienwere laptop is
CPU:I7 3.2 ghz that can be overclocked to 4.2
16 gigs of ram,
GPU: 1070
I'm trying to host an invasion mod pack server, and play on the same computer. I got the server up and running and I am using evolve so my friends can join in. But once I'm in the server myself there is unplayable lag, for both me and my friends. Also game drops frame rates every 5 seconds. I mostly want to know if my specs are even capable of hosting and running the game at the same time or if I need to tweak my settings. I'm used to running the older version of feed the beast on a desktop with worse hardware.
And I know im being very vague in regards to descriptions like the mod version and such, just I'm on my phone at the time of writing this and if I need more description I'll add them in later.
I have found that it becomes seriously unreliable to try and do both on the same machine, especially when modded. I built a server a few years back and it still hosts heavy mod packs at 20tps, but running both at the same time is simply not feasible. I would highly suggest getting a dirt cheap host like bisect to run your server, don't go with the normal plans go for the premium plans whatever they are. If you have the money look into OVH servers, they are a good start.
My best advice to you is to also ensure that the client is running on the graphics card, and also install optifine and minimum the settings as much as possible. 3.2ghz is great, but also keep in mind cores count too, if you have any less than 8 you are going to have a hard time doing both. Your ram is sufficient to do both for sure, and the gfx card is definitely overkill for minecraft - but I think the cores on your cpu might be limiting you. Generally 4 cores with that clock rate is good enough to do either server or client at max settings, but not usually both.
Is evolve like the logmein program? hamachi? if so just try to do single player over lan, instead of hosting a dedicated server on top of the client. If evolve is like hamachi you should be able to host a lan game and have your friends play, and it could reduce the load.
Good luck!
