Hi, I got MC for my little son, but he has not been able to play in months because I have no idea how to fix this.
When it loads, and you press play, it shuts down and says:An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience.
I saw on a forum to uninstall and reinstall, did this several times - no joy.
Another forum said to get an error log report, here it is: Java (TM) Platform SE Binary has stopped working....
In the report , there were two warnings under game output, one said: Client thread, skipping bad option:lastServer:
The other warning said:Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded? Running 13386ms behind, skipping 267 tick(s)
Someone said it may be the graphics cards drivers need updating, but this laptop is newish, and is only really used for MC and a few small kids games. We ran MC successfully on a much older laptop, but that one died sadly. I cannot buy another laptop now, this one was given to us, and cannot really buy anything to upgrade it (single working mom, waiting for the lottery), so if anyone can offer advice that works - please, please do.
My kiddy loves MC, and it feels really bad not being able to help him play, especially as we saved up to buy it for him, and it has been months since he last could play.
try using the "linux" launcher, which is actually the old java platform-independent launcher. The new launcher has been known to cause issues for some people.
The "can't keep up" message implies the game did successfully launch, and was able to load a world. As such, we'll need more information about when exactly it crashes. Is the game able to get to the main menu before crashing? (The main menu looks like this). If you make it to this point, are you also able to load a world after that, by clicking on singleplayer and creating a new world through the menus at the bottom?
Also, those error logs aren't helpful because they are incomplete. We'll need the full log files in order to diagnose anything. Inside your .minecraft folder, go to logs, and upload latest.log to pastebin, and copy a link to it here.
Thank you for the advice re trying the old launcher, I did try it, but no luck. It asked me to update Java, did that, still nothing.
To Builderb0y - the game gets to the main menu, I can create and load a new world (only ever use single player), the world loads, and crashes immediately before you can even move.
PS: Thank you all very much for the help, much appreciated. And to Builderb0y, thanks especially for the details you gave on how and what, I am a real novice at this, and found that truly helpful!
Interesting, those logs claim nothing is wrong. Does the game completely exit, returning to either the launcher or the desktop, or does it simply freeze or become unresponsive upon loading the world? If it's just frozen, then this will be a lot harder to diagnose. If it's a full exit though, then there's something the log files aren't telling us, in which case there are 2 new files to look for. The first is in .minecraft/crash-reports. Delete everything in that folder, and load the world again. This is to ensure you don't accidentally give us an old file that isn't actually related to this issue. If it creates a new file in there called "crash-(date and time)-(client or server).txt", then we'll need you to upload that to pastebin as well. The second file to look for is in the base .minecraft folder, and is called "hs_err_pid(a number).log". Once again, delete it first if it exists, and if it re-appears after loading the world, then upload that too.
Hi Builderb0y, thanks for the reply. I know it just completely exited before after loading the world, so I thought I would try again to confirm. Now, it won't even launch, and just says MC launcher has stopped working. Will not even load at all. This is so frustrating, I have no idea what to try next. What would you advise? Many thanks
Maybe it is the thing urielsalis said then. A possible fix mentioned in his link was to try using an older version of the launcher (found here), so I guess that's worth a shot. If it can successfully launch the game, then we can keep debugging it from there. If it can't even do that, then I'll recommend a 3rd-party launcher called MultiMC. I'll help you get that downloaded and set up too if that's the case.
Hi Builderb0y, thanks for your reply. Apologies for my delayed reaction, not been able to get online for a while. I deleted everything, reinstalled, tried the older versions, went back to the new. No difference. It loads, and just as you can see the world load, ("look there's a tree and the sky"), it all stops, and a note comes up saying 'Java SE Binary has stopped working', then later "an unexpected error occurred, etc etc"
Could I please try your 3rd party launcher? Thanks again
MultiMC can be found here. Once you have it downloaded and running, click the "new instance" button on the top left, configure whatever version and name you want for it, then click OK. Then, simply click the "launch" button on the right to launch it. You can also click "instance folder" (also on the right) to view the folder it uses for that instance. Inside there there should be another folder called "minecraft". That folder behaves exactly like your original .minecraft folder, so if you want to transfer your settings from the vanilla launcher to multiMC, simply copy-paste the files found inside your .minecraft folder into the instance folder.

I made my own shader pack, by the way.
