Be sure that Java is allowed through the firewall and that both are allowing incoming and outgoing connections in the firewall and possibly antivirus on both machines.
If it still can't find it in the server list, look for the IP address on the computer that is running the map on the LAN, how to find that depends on the operating system. You want the internal IP address of the computer, not the external one that it uses for Internet. On windows systems, it would be found in the details screen of the local network connection. This is usually found in the control panel > network connections > local area connection. Right click the local area connection and select status, then in that screen look for the details button, then in that screen look for "IPv4 Address". It's probably something like 192.162.0.3 or something similar. You now have the IP address of the hosting machine. When you open the game to LAN it will tell you what port it's using, something like 54324 or any other five digit number. On the machine you want to join that game with, go to the direct connect screen in Minecraft and type in the IP address then a colon then the port, using the example I have above, it would look like this:
192.162.0.3:54324
And see if that works. Every time the game is hosted on LAN, that port number may change, but the IP address should stay the same, depending on how your network is configured, but you may need to look up the IP address each time as well.
My brother and i are trying to join each others lan servers with mods but nothing will show up on my screen when he opens it to lan please help.
