So guys, I tried to download the newest snapshot, but everytime it gives me this message in the game output:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: net/minecraft/client/main/Main : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0

Every version of Minecraft up until this one has worked just fine, so I thought maybe I had to upgrade my Java to Java 8 or 9, but I still got that same message.
If you can help me out I would greatly appreciate it
(My Java is Java 8 atm and I'm running Ubuntu 14.04)
This usually only happens when it's coded with a higher Java version that you have installed. I'd suggest making sure you do have Java 7 or 8 and that only Javas are uninstalled.
I uninstalled all versions of Java I had and reinstalled Java 7 and 8 so those are the only versions of Java I have and I'm still getting that message.
I also took a screenshot showing both of them installed just i case you need it for something.
(EDIT: In addition, I also installed Java 8 before 7, and tried to play Minecraft on that, but It didn't work at all until I installed Java 7 for whatever reason.)
Not sure then... Try using 17w13b instead? Works for me on the older Java 8u111. I don't even have an option to select 17w13a.
Only things I can think of if it still doesn't work would be to try running it without any java arguments in the profile editor, or try a different OS.
I must have been calling it 17w13a the whole time but you are right it is 17w13b xD, I tried running it without any Java arguments but it didn't work so I guess i'm going to have to try it on windows 7
(EDIT: Could you give me a download link to Java 8u111, I'd like to try it)

java.com
Or in ubuntu, you have lookup digitalocean instructions to install Oracle java.
Make sure to only get java 8 as its the one the snapshot only supports
