I've been playing Minecraft for many years. I've encountered many issues, but none such as this. I've browsed the web for hours, but I have yet to fix the problem.
Optifine is a necessity for me while playing Minecraft, because with a mediocre laptop, I can't really play very well without lagging crazily on public servers.
This is a list of problems I have within this big problem:
-I can't move in the game
-I get 0 fps
-The screen is black
-IF and ONLY if the game happens to load, I'll get a frame update every 5-10 seconds
-I can't press anything. I can't press Esc to get into the options menu, I can't move my mouse, I can't press the X on the top right
-The chat on the server updates, the scoreboard updates, but I'm unable to type, move, see, or do anything whatsoever
The things I've tried to fix these problems:
-Uninstall Optifine (works, runs at 2fps. I need Optifine)
-Install the latest version of Optifine
-Visit my Graphics Card in Control Panel, change every setting to every possible combination (I think. I might be wrong. It is likely that the problem lies somewhere in here, but I may be wrong)
-Restart my computer (I did this once, and it worked once or twice launching Minecraft, then went back)
-Running older versions of Minecraft
I haven't found any solutions. If anyone has an alternative for Optifine, knows what the problem is, or how to fix is, PLEASE let me know! I'm happy to provide any other information that is needed. This is really making me upset and I want to figure it out soon
EDIT: I have reinstalled Minecraft- no effect.
EDITT: I went to System Settings and installed updates for the computer.
EDITTT: I updated Java, ran Minecraft, and it was working for maybe 1 minute. It then began lagging enough that I had to restart the launcher. The problem has resurfaced.
EDITTTT: I installed the old launcher, ran Minecraft, and it worked. I didn't want to jinx it, but I had to make sure it worked. I restarted the launcher, changed all my settings to lowest performance, and sure enough, I can run it! Hopefully I didn't waste anybody's time trying to find out how to do this... I'm gonna leave the thread up in case anyone has the same problem/in case this problem resurfaces.
I had the exact same problem as you, and I have been looking for something to fix it for weeks. And like 5 minutes ago I was just playing around with settings and I turned off Smooth FPS. It worked! Now I can play Minecraft just as I had before. I hope this helps!
Hello! I had the same issue with my OptiFine. Here's what I did to fix it:
Since I had multiple minecraft versions and OptiFine on many of them, I deleted the OptiFine version for all of them. I deleted all optifine .jar files, deleted from trashcan. I even deleted them from my downloads folder. Then I tried installing the last OptiFine version for 1.8.8 (because that's what I use), no change, same black screen, 0 fps. Then I tried for 1.8.9 and.... it was suddenly fixed.

PS!
Today I was on a server and I was a little curious about the "Smooth FPS" setting. I clicked on it. IMMEDIATELY after I clicked on it, my game froze/crashed. I couldn't do anything. Then I ended MC from task manager.
I restarted MC and the game worked fine after the restart..
ANYWAY... The Smooth FPS setting is what is causing MY game to crash. Just keep that in mind.
And even if it DOES run well on your computer with Smooth FPS on, experiment with it. You might aswell experiment with all the other FPS settings, as they might be the main cause for your crashes.

Hello! I see everyone Is having this MAJOR Problem, Well No need to thank me Cause I have the Answer to this Problem, First. Install OPTIFINE 1.8.9 H8 Then Put it in your mods folder, Then go to C:\Users\YourAccountName\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\optionsof. Then find "SmoothFPS" And replace "True" with "False" then Close out Every tab on your task bar (You don't have to do this though) then open the launcher click play or play offline, then turn off all your resource/texture packs, make a world in single player Name it anything you want cause its a test world Then go into it, And if you first get in and you're at 14 FPS and it went up, it worked if it loaded but still nothing I'll have to figure out how to fix your other problems. Welp Its been ur boi Vape. Cya! EDIT-- I vape
This problem was getting on my nerves until I isolated the problem to Optifine. Somehow I was getting by restarting my laptop everytime this issue came up. This issue has been reported to the devs and is likely due to a driver bug.

Yes, I'd been having this issue for a long time but this worked for me too!
Just for reference purposes, what hardware do you have and what version of java do you have installed?
