So, unfortunately Microsoft, or Mojang, or whoever, decided to take away the Minecraft launcher that did work, and has now replaced that once, never broken product with a new software update, that is broken. Yes I'm talking about the dreaded error 5 that everyone is getting.
We are a month, maybe two months, into this problem, and it has yet to be fixed. There is the temporary fix, and that fix doesn't last forever. Does anyone from Mojang read these forums?
Well, in the event that they do, which most companies don't, this next bit is to anyone associated with Mojang, or anyone at Mojang:
Please reinstate the old Minecraft launcher, and remove the new launcher. It is not working and it is fundamentally flawed and broken. It has caused many, many people to not be able to even play the game, that they paid their hard earned money on. I for one, did not pay for a broken game. I purchased Minecraft back in the Beta days, and everything worked. But this new launcher of yours is simply not working. And I refuse to sit here for an entire year, while you try to figure out why your patch ain't working. The best thing that you, Mojang, can be doing as a company right now, remove the new launcher, replace the old launcher, and figure out first how to make your new launcher work, if that's really how you want to go with your software, and then re-release the launcher patch.
Now, for anyone having an issue with the error 5 AFTER they did the temporary fix, I have my own fix for if error 5 happens again. In my tmp folder I have Minecraft.exe. I believe this file is the renamed file. If you created a Minecraft folder, then dropped a copy of Minecraft.exe into the Minecraft folder, if you get error 5 again, just copy and replace the file you renamed to Minecraft.exe from the tmp folder.
I had error 5 come up on me several days ago, it went to Updating Launcher, error 5, happened two times in a row, I copied and replaced the file I just mentioned, and the Updating Launcher window box title changed to Unpacking Launcher, then it worked. So be sure you saved the original file that you have to rename, and when error 5 happens again, just copy the renamed file over into the Minecraft folder that you made, for fixing the error 5.

I personally love the new launcher, and haven't had any difficulties. What is this error 5?(Genuinely curious, haven't heard of it yet)
