This situation makes no sense to me. I realized that my minecraft 1.7.2 version has no sound whatsoever along with my minecraft 1.6.4 version, yet all the others have sound. After hours I realized this was because I was missing the JSON file in the assets folder that allows sound to be processed in those versions. For some reason, that JSON file doesn't download with those 2 versions. I deleted minecraft and reinstalled it with no success. Everything about 1.7.2 downloads except for the JSON file. I have no mods or resource packs that would interfere with this, its just that the download itself is messed up seemingly on Minecraft's part. Besides manually downloading the JSON file somehow, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to play 1.7.2 with the faulty download on minecraft.net unless I'm doing something wrong???? Like I said, reinstalling did not help at all
once you download this, open it, hit next, and select repair (the middle one) this should install the missing files for the game. follow the launcher instructions, and it should hopefully have worked!

Running the launcher does the same if they are missing, and they said reinstalling didnt work

I think if you go to https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/ if your on windows, or https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/alternative if your on Mac, or Linux.
