Hey all,

I'm new to Minecraft PC and trying to set it up for my son. Just purchased/downloaded the latest version and when we try to launch we receive the following error: The game crashed whilst initializing game Error: org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Pixel format not accelerated

I've done some reading on this and know it's a common issue with Windows 10. I have already tried updating my video drivers but newer drivers are not available even going direct to Intel. Please help! And please be patient, I work in the computer industry but I'm new to Minecraft.

Is your java up to date? Recent versions of Minecraft work better with Java 8.

Thanks, but I don't consider that anywhere near inexpensive. Not going to buy a $300 GPU so my son can play a $27 game. :-D But if there's an inexpensive way to make this work, I will.

You shouldn't need a GPU to play the game without any texture packs or shaders.

a 970 is a high end one, you can get cheaper ones, just check with a computer shop(and make sure it has drivers!)

No. Intel has not released drivers for Windows 10. Get back to Windows 7 or get an ew GPU

I had this exact same error message the only difference is my PC was previously a Windows 7 and had the free 10 upgrade and my kids owned their MC account and were loading it onto this PC. After getting the error message I did some updates and tried again but it continued... I then decided to delete Minecraft entirely the .minecraft folders and program file. Reinstalled the latest Minecraft download and it has been working great.

If you have an out-of-the box Windows 10 and this doesn't work then look around for a 7 or even older PC tower for the kids to play on. It's surely less than new GPU upgrades and has the additional benefit(s) of another PC presumably freeing up your computer for your use, no more sticky juice box and cheese ball keys and you can let the kids download mods explore for themselves without jeopardizing the family/work PC with your identities and financial data. It's been great for me and my kids. If they don't know, I can comfortably say the information is at your fingertips just Google it!

P.S. - Guy's, I did not revert back to Windows 7. I just realized that some of the latest 10 updates had not been installed, performed the check for updates, COMPLETELY removed Minecraft and downloaded the latest version (from the Chrome browser) and it works great.

The windows updates fixed it then, they updated the driver
