I've recently started creating again after a long hiatus and the project I was working on has been basically trashed by large rows of terrain jutting through everything I've done. I understand that the seed generates different terrain with most new versions but I specifically chose a flat, ocean world for a reason. Is there anything I can do to restore my previous creation short of reverting back to an earlier version (which I presume would not have the newer blocks or features).
Thank you in advance. I have my fingers crossed as I've been working on this off and on for years and I basically have to abandon it or start over.
EDIT: After deleting the save in the Minecraft folder and replacing it with a slightly older backup the terrain is now gone. I have no idea what made it appear in the first instance. With that cleared up this topic can probably be deleted. Apologies, I should have tried this option before seeking help.

Chunks probably got deleted and being empty, Minecraft generated new terrain there.
