every single attempt to launch any version below 1.6.x is un-successful and my crash reports tell me nothing because i dont know how to read them, i am running vanilla minecraft with no mods installed. here is one of the crash reports for 1.4.4

Make sure that the language you have selected in your minecraft options is actually supported in the version you are trying to run.
MC does not deal well with game settings that don't apply when you go backwards in versions.
i'm pretty sure english is supported on older minecraft because that's what its based off of
