Hey guys, Ever since the new Minecraft launcher has been released I've noticed significant FPS drops that happen very frequently.

For example, i join a huge mini game server like Hypixel, the game would go down to 30-40 FPS and would not rise above 60 until i modified the render distance. I also have more random lag spikes, and the game just does not feel very smooth anymore.

Another thing, Shadersmod used to run perfectly, to the point where it would go way above 60 FPS. But now, it's around 80. Sometimes 50. I know it's still relatively good, But it's just weird that i would experience such an odd drop.

Here are my specs in case that helps:

Intel Core i7 6700k 4.00 GHz

GTX 1060 6GB

16GB of RAM

Java 64bit

64 Bit Windows 10 System

All drivers are up to date, same with the OS. These FPS drops started happening as soon as the new launcher rolled out. Anybody know any possible fixes?

I haven't noticed much of a drop with the new launcher. Granted, I've so far only played a vanilla coop map, and computercraft, but it seems as good as it was before. (FX-6300 4.3ghz, GTX 1080 8gb, yes I am aware of the bottleneck, 16gb, 64 bit Win10)

I'd post this on Mojira or whatever they're using for bug reports now, the launcher only just came out so it sorta makes sense it'll have some problems.

Make sure you've got a good bit of ram allocated still (doesn't carry over, change it in the java settings for a profile), I'd go with at least 4gb.

If it's still bad, you can always go back to the old launcher.

Allocating more RAM makes it worse

Not if he's running out of it, which he could be. I play at 16 chunks, usually with shaders, and the framerate is quite poor if it's at the default 1gb.

I allocate 6-8gb, which is overkill, but I've reached up into the high 5000mb's when hosting an extended lan game for friends occasionally.

I notice zero performance decrease from 2gb to 4gb to 6gb to 8gb, and I've tested each.

This is the unmodified section, assume no mods, that would be the only reason to use more. It will crash with Out of memory to tell you you need more.

More memory = more for the GC to clean = longer freezes

And while I'm aware that it will stress the cpu more, I still don't think it would cause a performance impact, especially with a 6700k.

This is what I see, anyway:

I'm not saying he should allocate 8gb or even 6, but at least try 2-4 and see if that improves things. It's possible.

ot sure if you noticed? But fps was lower in your screenshots when you allocated more(withing margin of error), and a significant difference in the last one. Plus FPS is not what it affects, it makes the pauses for the GC take longer because it has to clean 8GB of data instead of 1GB

6gb->8gb was a good 20 or so FPS difference, yes. That bit was news to me; I usually just play with 8gb because I can, and never have problems with it. It's just my default, mods or not. Even then, they're still all well above 60fps, and not all that very far from each other (save the last transition). (And yeah, majority was margin of error, most of them aside from 8gb were going between 138 and 130 consistently).

And I guess the freezing depends on the CPU then. I very, very rarely get freezes, and usually not for more than a spit second, and usually not just out of the blue. A 6700k is leaps and bounds above my CPU, so I really can't see this being a problem for it.

That freeze would be non existant if you didnt allocate that much

Alright, so don't allocate more ram, 'cause that can't be it.
File a bug report, and try the old launcher again.

Check HWmonitor and GPU-z, or something of the like while it runs, see if anything is maxing out for some reason. (I know I had a problem with my 1080 where it wouldn't go past around 600mhz on one driver version)

Did any drivers update around the same time you got the new launcher? Or was that the only thing that changed.

From what i remember, a new update for NVIDIA released atleast 2 days after the new launcher.

I have allocated more ram, more than four to be exact, However FPS drops still occur.

Nothing is maxing out when i run Minecraft, and i checked out my RAM usage and Minecraft was using it to its full extent. I really don't know what could be causing this problem. I guess i could try the old launcher again, however i don't know how to get that back. Is there a download link in the launcher?
