First, an explanation as to why I'm putting something about servers here: This only happens on servers, but it happens on every server; so, I'm imagining that it's a client-side problem. If this is something that I should have put on the Server Forum, I'm sorry, I thought that it would make more sense here.
Also, I don't know if it helps any, but I play on a PC, with windows 64-bit.
Any who, like the title says, any sound effect on a server sounds like it is right behind me. As in, I was playing a PvP game where there's a kit that allows people to make super jumps. However, when they do, it makes a noise that has the same sound radius as someone getting punched. Okay, so I mention that because when I started playing about a week ago, I noticed that anytime anyone used this power, I'd hear it. It didn't matter if they were on the exact opposite side of the map or not, it sounded as if they had super jumped from right behind me. At first, I thought that it was just a bug on that server, but I have gone to other servers and have noticed similar problems. Sounds of people getting punched, shooting, being shot, or killed were all sounding right behind me.
This doesn't happen in my own worlds as far as I can tell, but if it's something to do with other players, then a single player world isn't going to help me experiment much, sorry.
Whatever the heck this is, any help, advice, or even theory anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!
As far as I can tell, my headphones are in the right way. Neither the servers nor I have any mods or resource packs. I also don't have any software that modifies it.
I'm not quite sure it's exactly 3D, but you know how you can hear someone get hit from a few blocks away and it sounds fainter than when someone gets hit right next to you? It's like my hearing range got supercharged and every damage sound on the server is being processed as originating from right next to me.
I'm really bad at explaining things, so when I was talking about Minecraft's sound, I meant this thing:

Yeah, I thinking Minecraft just makes them fainter with distance, it doesnt locate them in space

Yeah, that's part of why it's so strange.
I've tried looking everywhere I can think of, and I have yet to see anyone with this kind of problem. :/
Oh well, thank you for the theories and trying to help me!
There is a mod that enables HTRF sound if you want, no idea the name though
