I haven't played minecraft in a while, and the last time i was on the launcher showed multiple profiles you could choose from and different versions of minecraft you could play as, all the way back to alpha/beta. Maybe around September was when this was? Well, I've been playing minecraft since 2011 and I dearly miss the older versions so I loaded them up. Don't really remember if the sound worked or not.
Today I get on and there is a new launcher which looks very modern and window 10ish. Don't know how recent it is since I haven't played in awhile, it has the "News" "Skins" "Settings" "Launch Options" at the top. I fiddle around and figure out how to load up a minecraft game in 1.7.3 beta. No sound was playing. Checked speakers on computer, used headphones, went to mixer options in my computer, and in game the sound was on. No menu button clicks or in game sounds at all. Loaded up a current version and sound works fine. Any clue as to why this is going on or how to fix it?

edit: I am using windows 7 and I've had minecraft completely uninstalled and reinstalled in the past since i've bought it in 2011. So all older files would be gone (if that makes a difference)
