I am having trouble playing Minecraft in any version older than 1.11. Specifically I am trying to run 1.2.5. At first I wasn't getting an error log but just a message that said sorry it didn't work (in a nutshell something like that). I followed a lead on it being the latest NVIDIA 3D driver related to this MOJANG bug: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-112780. I followed the instructions and it fixed the problem of not giving me an error message. So now when I try to run Minecraft 1.2.5 I get the following error log:
Minecraft has crashed!
----------------------
Minecraft has stopped running because it encountered a problem.

I have no idea what that error is nor do I know how to fix it. I still can't play any version of Minecraft older than 1.11. Any suggestions?
You may need to reinstall the locally installed files that Minecraft puts into place.
To do so, press your Windows+R keys, type in %AppData% at the dialog, and press Enter. In the window that appears, open the .minecraft directory, and delete everything except for the saves directory that you see therein. Then, try running Minecraft again. Good luck!

It's not a bug per se. MC has never claimed to be forward compatible.
Although it should be relatively trivial for Mojang to add some validation to options settings and ignore those that are invalid (e.g. a language that doesn't exist, a render distance that isn't supported)
I dont understand it now, shouldnt the launcher download all the files necesary to download the old version? if so, its a bug for the MCL project(same link)

I'm talking about an unsupported language selection.
See http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Language#Available_languages for the history of language support.
If you run MC 1.10 and set your language to "Oschdallgaierisch" and then change your profile to run MC 1.2.5 which doesn't support "Oschdallgaierisch", then I think you might get a crash and stack trace very much like this one.
In fact I tested and you get this:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at java.io.Reader.<init>(Unknown Source)
at java.io.InputStreamReader.<init>(Unknown Source)
at adn.a(SourceFile:62)
at adn.a(SourceFile:99)
at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.a(SourceFile:262)
at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.run(SourceFile:657)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
It would be a perfect match if I had a different version of Java installed.

Ah, now I think I remember another reason why this error occurs.
I think if you have a language configured that doesn't exist in the older version...
Is there any bug report of it? If its not, can you create one, if it is, can you update it?
