I've used the new launcher that came out a couple days ago a few times. Last time I used it, when I selected Play Latest Release, it showged an error and a Windows dialog box pops up saying "Minecraft Launcher has stopped working." It displayed the following details and I do not know how to fix it (I cannot access the launcher's error details because of the Windows box that pops up. Anything I do closes the program):

Try right-clicking the launcher and running it as administrator, this fixed the freezing problem for me.

Ok go to minecraft.com. find where it lets you download the launcher, but instead of clicking the regular one, click the alt download. It may be the old launcher but it works far better. also go into your .minecraft folder and find the launcher.jar file, then you just open that file and it wont ask you to update the launcher.
