I don't see a Support Thread for the Java version. And I don't understand...I downloaded (I thought) the Windows 10 version since I have a computer with W10. Did I click on a separate link somewhere or should I uninstall and do a fresh download again?
Unfortunately your graphics hardware is not supported on Windows 10, you will need to downgrade to Windows 7, upgrade your graphics hardware (Not possible on a laptop), or use another computer to play Minecraft.

Any help greatly appreciated!!!!

There's a big difference between:
* The java edition of MC that runs in any OS that runs Java (including Windows 10, the OS).
* The Windows 10 Edition of MC (another edition of MC that runs only in Windows 10 and does not need Java or a "launcher").
It is confusing, and after a year, people still get the two versions mixed up. (This forum is for the latter).

Thx for your help. Current laptop is 7 years old and now I have an excuse to upgrade
