Hello, I have been experiencing problems with the "Out of Memory" error in Minecraft but it's at the point where it is unbearable. So I have the latest java, and I have allocated 2G of RAM to the game (those 2 are always what people recommend) but in-game, if I go to the debug screen, the memory % is constantly increasing and eventually reaches 100%, aka the memory limit has been reached, and then Minecraft says "Not Responding" and I lose connection to whatever server I am on but instead of receiving the classic out of memory screen (with the buttons for "Go back to home screen"), I get an error message/connection lost message saying something with "Java Heap Space" on it somewhere. I have tried allocating more RAM to it, I went from 3G to 4G to 5G (which ultimately made it worse because it was taking memory from other places) and I have read that you should not allocate more than 2G for Minecraft so I left it at that but the problem is it's still trying to go over that amount and I'm trying to find out why.
Computer info:
- HP Laptop (just a normal laptop)
- Windows 10
- Core i5
- 8G memory
- Latest Java
- Only used to open chrome and run Minecraft (and a few other applications occasionally).
You should leave it at the default 1G, create a new profile or delete your changes from the JVM arguments. Also, do you have any resource packs or mods? Those are the most common issues for out of memory issues. If you cant fix it with that, post a crash log like webrosc said

I wasn't supposed to change the max? Every tutorial I've found [to allocate more memory] has told me to do that.
Also I removed everything from JVM, it defaulted to 1797MB and my memory is ranging from 900-1300 so it seems fine for now, I'll post any updates if there are any.
I'm wondering if the issue has to do with my server, I was just on my friend's server and it was fine, I disconnected and joined mine and within 5 seconds minecraft stopped responding and then got the "OutOfMemory: Java Heap Space" error. I have to restart my game every time I want to join my server otherwise it will do that if I join.
haha, see what I did there. memes

Moderatorpost the crash log
and your JVM arguments from your launcher profile.
Sounds like you changed Xmn for one, which you shouldn't have done.

I have no mods except Optifine and no resource packs.
JVM: -Xmx2G -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:-UseAdaptiveSizePolicy -Xmn128M
yup you modified the wrong one, reset it as default or just create a new profile

You are not supposed to allocate more memory, it makes it run worse

And it happens with a new profile? Are you sure its only of your server?
