Hello. I'm sure this is a frequent problem, however, I am not very tech savvy and I just need some simple step-by-step instructions to resolve this issue if anyone will offer them. I downloaded Minecraft for the first time back when the latest version was 1.7.2 and I have been unable to update to any new versions ever since. If I do update, I click the play button and it begins to launch. The Mojang screen pops up, and a few seconds later, it goes back to the screen with play button and it has this in place of the MInecraft Newsletter. This was from today after I updated Java and uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft.

I have tried updating my Java as well as completely uninstalling Minecraft from my computer and reinstalling it (including the launchers) and neither of these have worked. I also viewed this article http://www.westeroscraft.com/forum/m/12700545/viewthread/20786549-launcher-wont-launch-my-minecraft/post/last that recommends I check for _JAVA_OPTIONS or JAVA_OPTS in the environment and there were none of those present. I do not run the latest version of Windows, if that makes any difference. If any more information is needed to resolve this, I can certainly find it for you, and if there is another thread with an answer, I will gladly try to make sense of it.Thank you for your help.

Moderatoryour GPU is old and has a bug that means it can't handle minecraft past 1.7.2, thats what majestyc2k1 is trying to say.
you will need to get a better GPU or use a different computer to play recent minecraft versions
