I am trying to install forge-1.8-11.14.4.1577-installer.jar for Minecraft on a mac and it is not working. Instead of opening up the software, my mac is using archive utility to create a folder out of the .jar file. I haven't had a problem like this before. Actually, whenever I try to open ANY .jar file it just makes a folder instead of installing. I don't know what to do. I have Extractor and The Unarchiver but they both do the same thing: make the .jar file into a folder. I have never had this problem. Please help
open the forge installer the exact same way you open the minecraft launcher. they are both .jar files, so you need to open both with java. i don't know if that's possible on a mac, but you can also try to open it from a terminal: open a terminal in the folder where the forge installer is and type:

The terminal strategy did not work. I am simply right clicking the forge icon twice and it is automatically turning into a folder.
