A few months ago, I got a new hard-drive to my computer, I had to reinstall/re-download everything again, when I downloaded minecraft, the game ran terribly, so I uninstalled it. Later, I found out you need java or the new installer so I downloaded the latest version of java, then minecraft again, and it worked fine. The other day, I wanted to download a modpack, project ozone 2, when I downloaded it from curse and tried to play it, it told me an error message "Error: Could not create java virtual machine Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit" I resarched a bit and found out you need a certain java to play modded mc, so I downloaded another version of java (I can't remember which version of java I think java 6 or something) Downloading java 6 did not work for modded either so I uninstalled java, gave up on playing mods, and went back to the latest version of mc to play vanilla. When I re-downloaded the latest version of java and tried to play minecraft, it would crash and show an error message, or sometimes, launch the game but run TERRIBLY even though it's at all the same settings and ran perfectly before. I cannot recognize any pattern. I have tried to do anything I could think of, I reinstalled java, I got an older version of java, I tried both of the backup downloads of minecraft, and even went searching on google and youtube. I have never found anything that has worked. If anyone knows of what to do or has experienced this before, help would be appreciated. Thank you and sorry for the long comment!
You didn't state what version of MC your playing. MC 1.7.10+ can run on Java 8. Earlier versions won't. See this if you need it. Also, the Mojang launcher needs to be configured to use other versions of Java (default is 1.8_25).
Thank you for responding. I was trying to use java 7 versions so I have updated to java 8 because I pretty much only use mc versions 1.8+
Also, thank you for telling me that the launcher needs to be configured to use other javas, for I did not know that, however, I do not know how to configure that. If you could reply back with any info about that I would be thankful thank you!
