I just came back to playing last week after taking a break for over a year. I play almost completely on my vanilla survival world I've had since 1.3.2. However I still like to mess around on creative worlds etc from time to time. I'm having some issues getting some stuff that I used to use to work again.
I'm running Win10 OS with a i3-4170/R9 380.
I'm unable to get optifine to install itself in the launcher. I've tried downloading the .jar many times and clicking to open it did nothing. I tried changing what opens it and now I get "class not registered".
Amidst does nothing when I try to run the .exe even when I use it as administrator.
MCEdit keeps giving me the "unhandled exception" error even when doing something like analyzing a selected area of blocks.

Why was this moved here? This isn't anything about a modded client. MCEdit and Amidst are external programs. Optifine hardly counts as a mod, almost everyone everywhere uses it because it simply helps with resource packs and lag. I specificially posted this in discussion because its multiple things and I want real responses.

Reason it's in modified client support is because Optifine is a mod, not vanilla. Any and all mods fall under this criteria.
As for installing Optifine, you should be opening it with the Java Platform SE Binary. Make sure you have up to date Java.

I've tried redownloading half a dozen different versions of Java SE JRE JDK and optifine. Java site says I have the latest version 8. Now when I open optifine with Java SE a CMD prompt pops up for a split second then nothing. It's not giving me a option to install.
I managed to get amidst to work somehow from the Java mess.

For Amidst, check out these:
1.11 updated Amidst- http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-tools/2626547-amidst-now-has-1-11-support
Installation Instructions- https://github.com/toolbox4minecraft/amidst/wiki/Using-Amidst
Amidst Bug Reporting- https://github.com/toolbox4minecraft/amidst/wiki/Supporting-the-Development#reporting-a-bug
For MCEdit, make sure you are on a stable release version, and if so, report your issue at http://www.mcedit.net/
For all the issues, it would be a good idea to provide any crashlogs, screenshots, error prompts from the programs you are using.

MCEdit still bugs out when analyzing.
