I have attempted to follow this guide to the letter. Copied the 1.2.3 versions folder renamed to 1.2.3-mods as well as the folders and the id in the json file.
However every time the launcher downloads a fresh 1.2.3 version before running the game. Tried to name it other things with no affect.
this is from 2013, so it's not reffering to the new launcher wich was introduced with minecraft 1.6, but to the one that we know as old launcher, even though it was new in 2013. get it?
as long as you start it in online mode, it will try to redownload everything that has been changed. you would need to start it in offline mode: either disconnecting from the internet of by blocking it with your firewall.

what you are looking for is this one: https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/launcher/Minecraft.exe
So the new-new launcher is not capable of this?
