So I often play minecraft with my sister over LAN.
I have a macbook pro running El Captain, and my sister has a laptop running windows 10.
When I host a Lan world, my sister can join it fine from her computer.
But, when she hosts a world from her computer, It doesnt show up on my multiplayer list.
Here is what I have tried.
--Direct connecting by typing in only the 5 digit number that shows up on her minecraft chat when she opens the world to lan(ex: 56857)
--Direct connecting by typing in the ipv4 address from my computer, a colon, and then the 5 digit number.
--Direct connecting by typing in the ipv4 address from her computer, a colon, and then the 5 digit number.
--Direct connecting by typing in my ip address (which I found here ), a colon, and then the 5 digit number.
--Turning off the firewall on my macbook (it was actually already off)
--Trying to allow minecraft access through the firewall on my sisters computer (she didnt want to disable her entire firewall). I dont think this worked though because all i could find was the minecraft launcher, which i allowed through the firewall, but i dont think that does anything because its just the launcher, not the game. I couldnt figure out how to do it for the game. I looked it up and it said somewhere to allow java through the firewall, but i dont think this launcher uses java anymore, and her computer didnt have java installed. If you think her firewall could be the problem, how would i allow minecraft through it?
What should I do?
I have also tried (unsuccessfully) to port forward the port that her minecraft chat gives when she opens it to lan (the 5 dig number).
That didnt work. I didnt know what ip to portforward the port to. Plus, the 5 dig. number changes every time, so it would be a real pain to have to do it every time.
No matter what ip i portforward the port to, when i go to http://canyouseeme.org/ it always says closed.
I dont see why I would even have to portforward because its over lan, but someone suggested it online so i tried.
By the way we are both using the new minecraft launcher which im pretty sure doesnt use java (it's launcher 1.6.70)
We are also both playing minecraft 1.11 (but i dont think it has anything to do with the launcher or minecraft version, because we have had this problem in the past)
I really hope someone can help me because this took me over half an hour to write and my sister really wants to play minecraft with me. Thanks in advance.
Yes, I know there are posts similar to this one. I have tried everything that I have found.
Direct connecting with using your sister's ipv4 address, colon, the port(the number in her chat when she opens to LAN) should work. Are you sure you are using your sisters internal ip and not external?

The firewall one one of your two PCs is most likely causing this.
Your computer could be blocking her game's announcement from being received. Hers could be blocking her Java from sending it.
And if direct connect doesn't work then the firewall could be blocking that as well.
localhost is the designation for own your computer, so if OP wants to connect to his own LAN world then he should use localhost.

localhost will work on both computers as long as they are connected on the same wifi network. I'm not getting at you im just clearing that up.

Have you tried connecting to "localhost"?

localhost is the computer you are on. It is NOT used to connect to any other machine. It's the computer equivalent of "me/myself/I"
Anywayyy, since that's not his problem, let's put that behind us.
heshi, you have not updated us in a couple days, are you still having an issue? Can you tell us what you have tried?
