I have a mac. Although I have java 8 installed, minecraft seems to think otherwise, saying that i have an old version and i need to upgrade to java 8. any clues why?

Curse Premium1. Open MC launcher
2. Click Edit Profile
3. Look for Java Settings (Advanced) at the bottom
4. Check the Executable box
5. Fill in the path to the version of Java to use
Updating Java does not guarantee that other programs that use it will also be updated. Manual configuration is sometimes required.

Use /usr/libexec/java_home -v 1.8 command on a terminal shell to figure out where is your java 1.8 home directory
