So I'll load an image. I have the latest Java on a 64 bit Win 7 comp that's been running fine. I occasionally get this lighting issue but it is rare. Until now I've tolerated it because it doesn't do much but this is a really unsightly problem I want to fix and can't figure out.
As you can see in the image the lighting does not match the light sources. There is total darkness (even F3 shows light level 0 at the locations that are dark). If I place a torch the entire area affected by the torch immediately updates its light level to the appropriate level but if I leave and come back it is back to that silly light issue.
Do you think this is client related, server related or setting related?

If you look close at the image it isn't just the slabs with the lighting issue. Directly on a sea lantern there is a light level of 0. And while light will not occur on a lower slab, you can see from the nearby slabs that they at least look lit.

simple answer this is a glitch in minecraft.
slabs have a somewhat weird effect when they are on the lower block level.
a source of light will not have effect them.
Mobs don't spawn on lower slabs so you shouldn't have a problem
Hope I Helped
