The day I found out that you can use HRTF in Minecraft, I did a ton of research into finding out how it is done. I found a few pages explaininghow it is done both before the launcher update and after.
Still, I have found no progress for activating HRTF and everything still runs off vanilla sound. Does anyone have any instructions themselves, links or videos or anything of the sort to help me (and possibly anybody in future who finds this)?

HRTF has been availible for Minecraft for a while now. Here is a Reddit tutorial on how to activate it.
Thing is that I did exactly that and it's still off. Also, it's out of date. This was for Minecraft's old launcher back when it used bin files and such.
I've got a Logitech G930. AFAIK Windows only reads it as 7.1 and I can't find a way to change it to just Stereo.
EDIT: It seems my problem is quite unique. I don't think this post will be able to help anyone else unless they have a 7.1 headset.
Can you set the G930 to be stereo in the Logitech Gaming Software or set it to stereo in the Realtek audio control panel (assuming that's the driver you have)?
I saw a post that disabling surround sound in the Windows playback devices settings can force stereo.

I have tried turning off surround sound in my Logitech Control Panel and it's still seen as 7.1 Surround. I have had a bit of a poke around under "Configure" in the Playback Devices and managed to disable most speakers except for the left and right, turning it into a faux surround. I still have to wonder if HRTF still gives it the thumbs up.
One forum says that one of the side buttons on your headset should put it into stereo mode.
And a tedious way of making it stereo is by uninstalling the logitech driver.
I tried both turning it into Stereo mode and uninstalled the drivers outright and restarted my computer and I still couldn't get HRTF. I guess I'll just have to accept that I'm not getting it with my current headset.

Inside user/AppData/Roaming, I created a file called alsoft.ini and typed "hrtf = true" (without quotes). The HTRF didn't work until I updated my audio driver (Conexant SmartAudio HD on Windows 10), which I presume refreshed the driver and caused it to see the file. The side effect is that it also affects sound outside of minecraft (such as youtube videos).

Tried it too using Realtek HD audio drivers and it seems to work half of the time, but it doesnt affect other sounds if you create a profile for MC

What is your headset model? In Windows you can force audio to be output as stereo. You can configure your playback device.

Edit: It doesn't. Logitech, you're killin me!
Did they stop putting physical switches on things for adjusting the output?
I didn't even know they did that in the first place.
A lot of the older surround headsets had a switch or dial to manually adjust from Stereo to 5.1 or 7.1 where applicable.
So I take it that's the end of that? There's no HRTF for me until I have to get a new headset?

Just saw this on the front page of the Forums:

Definitely worth checking out.

I realize that this post is a month old, but I've recently been able to get HRTF sounds in minecraft after reading a reddit post that seems to be an updated version of the post macadamia238 posted (https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1x3qm4/enabling_binaural_audio_in_minecraft_is_now/).
