I'm playing on a PC laptop. Recently, fairly frequently when I press any of the movement keys (w,a,s,d,space, etc.) I will keep moving when I let go of the key. I'm not ALT-tabbing out of the game, my keyboard is otherwise fine, and I can fix it by clicking whichever key it is several times, but it's extremely annoying when I'm trying to build (and could be dangerous in survival if I was near lava or a long drop). I play on 1.10, but I've tried several other versions, modded and ummodded, and it keeps happening. Please, does anyone know how to fix this?
I'm hoping a solution has been found to this because I have also started to experience this issue. In particular, it seems to appear after I go to sleep and when a message appears in chat (I presume that's why sleeping causes this glitch as it shows the chat-log). I have to exit out of the map/server and then re-enter in order to make it disappear and, ultimately, online play is entirely ruined.
I have tried the minecraft self-repair in the installer to see if that resolved anything but had no luck there. It happens regardless of what version I use or if the game is modded.
Let me know if anyone has a solution. I'm running the game on a new laptop with a GTX 960m so there should be no hardware issues.
This issue is not specific to Minecraft as far as I know. Can't remember what causes it, not everyone gets it. Tapping the key a few times or alt tabing out (if you are in fullscreen) and back in should fix it.
That's nice, but when it appears constantly because of messages appearing then that is hardly a worthwhile solution.
I appreciate the input but I'd like to know what causes it and how I can permanently stop it. It may not be Minecraft specific but something is causing it to appear in-game and not outside. And so it seems to be minecraft specific on my laptop as far as I can tell since I don't experience this issue with other games or in other apps.
Alt-tabbing out does not resolve the issue but does stop the key that is at that time 'stuck' however, when the problem appears it is 100% persistent and not a rare experience that can be ignored. As soon as the problem starts, anytime any movement key is uses that key becomes 'stuck'.
If possible, try an external keyboard or a linux live CD (can be on a USB) to see if either give you same results. If you can't, I probably can't help.
The fantastic guys at MinecraftIRC helped troubleshoot and we found the solution. We changed the javaw executable in the minecraft program folder (not .minecraft). to do this, I had to manually install the newest version of Java and redirect the profile of the minecraft version there to get it to run without this glitch.
If you're reading this with the same issue try the above solution and hopefully it helps you! It took me a couple of hours troubleshooting to get here.

Its probably a glitch, make sure you do not have sticky keys on. If anything, try to reinstall the game.
Yeah, I don't have sticky keys. Would reinstalling the game delete my worlds and servers?
Update - I reinstalled and nothing happened.
Hi there,

Thank you to whoever tries to help.
Have you tried an external keyboard?
I have not as I don't own one. I don't think it will result in a difference as this looks more like a software issue.
Thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate that you're taking the time to troubleshoot. It seems a lot of posts here get ignored.

Thanks anyways Sniper_Delta_02,
